Corinne Friedrich

Certified Labor and Postpartum Doula

*Corinne is transitioning to Postpartum Doula work only and no longer accepting Birth Doula Clients*

Witnessing parts of two births as a child was just the beginning, I see now. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt a keen interest in holistic health, birth, and the innate and unique strength that each woman has. I was originally interested in completing my doula training as a stepping stone for midwifery classes and preparation; I never intended on making it my passion and career.  Before attending my first birth as a student doula, I felt excited but nervous – what if I fainted, felt too anxious, or just couldn’t handle it? I thought that I hadn’t experienced anything like it as an adult, and was therefore unprepared. I needn’t have worried. Labor and birth were the places, both physically and mentally, where I felt the most calm, resourceful, and at home. I see them now as a vital part of life as a whole, always having great potential for joy and healing, no matter how they unfold.

Although I still have great interest in the field of midwifery, doula work has enhanced and colored my life in countless ways, and I am so happy doing it. I cherish each mother and family that I work with, and through learning about them (and with them!), I learn more about myself. The more people I work with and births I witness, the more I am convinced that there is no one right way to bring life into this world; there are as many different paths to birth as there are people doing it. Working as a doula is one of the most sacred and intimate ways that I can assist my fellow woman, her partner, and her family.

I received my labor and postpartum doula trainings and certifications from Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland, Oregon, and I am eager to serve my clients in every way that I am able. I also love spending time with my husband, hiking with our enormous dog Sirius Black, writing, reading, sewing, camping, and discovering restaurants with personality in the Portland area.

Corinne’s help and support was truly invaluable throughout the entire process. From the prenatal visits to everything she did to help me through the, at times very challenging, labor process, she was there to help educate, motivate, encourage and just listen to my needs. Corinne made the experience so much better for me and my family.     ~M

Choosing to have a doula was one of the best decisions we made regarding our birth plan.  Corinne has a wonderfully calm and caring presence that is wonderful to be around. She helped guide us through some unexpected twists in the birth of our son and was such a help.  It’s hard to imagine how we would have fared without her.  She was an extra person to hold hands with, an added voice of encouragement, and a knowledgeable advocate.      ~H & E

We were so lucky to find Corinne.  After interviewing several doulas who were not the right match for us, and even questioning whether or not we really “needed” one, we knew quickly on meeting her that Corinne was a perfect fit.  She has a very kind and gentle way about her but is extremely knowledgable, and helped us to organize our priorities and more clearly delineate what we were hoping for and expecting in the birth of our second child.  She was helpful and supportive in my goal to avoid induction, helped to brainstorm and problem solve to encourage progress in early labor, and encouraged our critical thinking and decision making as a couple along the way.  She offerred hands-on support as needed, input/advice when asked, and the opportunity for a nap for my husband (amidst my prolonged 18hr labor)!.  We have both said that, if not for Corinne, we could easily see the labor/birth process taking a very different course.  She helped us to feel confident in ourselves and our strength, and to trust in the beautiful natural process.    ~ A.C.

Corinne felt like part of the family for the few months we spent with her. She was knowledgable and always compassionate. She listened to us, was always thoughtful and thorough in her suggestions, and she was so sweet with our four-year-old soon-to-be big brother. I know the love and attention Corinne gave him made the strange experience of preparing for and welcoming a new baby easier for him. On the day of our birth. Corinne was supportive but completely unobtrusive. My husband and I were totally immersed in the experience, and she was there every step of the way to offer massage, water, suggestions to make me more comfortable, and anything else we needed. I highly recommend Corinne, and I’m so grateful for all she’s done for us.   ~ S.P.

Corinne has been a wonderful source of support and care for us since we met her in the months leading up to the birth of our son in March 2012. When I think of Corinne, a few characteristics that come to mind are: kind, good listener, non-judgmental, thoughtful, focused, strong, patient and supportive. Her sensitivity, open-mindedness and positive energy were just what we needed as we planned our birth experience and went through the birth process. Throughout labor and delivery, she helped us roll with whatever came our way and was a wonderful advocate, coach, nurse, and friend throughout. I can’t think of anyone better to have been there with us for one of the most important moments of our lives. She is truly amazing.   ~ S.S.
